Innovation
Rooted in Humanity

Merging high-end AI with the lived experience of refugees & persons with disabilities. Co-designing inclusive healthcare, SRHR access, and economic dignity.

The world looked at refugee camps through the lens of what is missing. We asked — how can they lead us?
— Ubumuntu Radical Conviction

The Ubumuntu Journey

01

The Spark

For decades, the world saw people waiting for help. We saw untapped expertise. The person who navigates the world in silence is the best designer of a communication tool.

02

The Shift

We stopped asking "How can we help them?" We started asking "How can they lead us?" Ubumuntu Health Labs was born from one radical conviction: the user is the expert.

03

The Ubumuntu Way

We don't just implement — we innovate. We don't just include — we employ. We don't just serve — we empower. Every product carries our seal: Designed by us, for all.

04

The Future

A world where disability is not a barrier to delivery — and where being a refugee is not a status of lack, but a source of specialized insight. The gap between provider and receiver disappears.

About Ubumuntu
Health Labs

Redefining humanitarian technology. Built by those who live the challenge.

Our Origin Story

Founded on the radical belief that those living at the margins — refugees, displaced individuals, and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) — are not passive beneficiaries but the most insightful designers of their own liberation.

Ubumuntu Health Labs disrupts the traditional aid model by integrating institutional AI, accessibility engineering, and deep co-design. Our office is in kigali and we operate country wide . Our team is majority composed of refugee experts and professionals with disabilities.

Designed by us, for all.

Ubumuntu Labs
Initiative

The non-profit arm that takes inclusive tech from the lab to the last mile.

The Initiative directly deploys SRHR sessions, technology training, and accessibility programs inside refugee camps and rural disability centers across Rwanda. It is funded through the Circular Equity Model: for-profit licenses fund the Initiative, not donors — making it structurally independent and sustainable.

50+ Workshops delivered in Mahama & Huye camps (2024–2025)
32 Refugee & disabled youth certified as SRHR peer educators
100% Materials available in Braille, audio & sign-language formats

The Circular Equity Model

Most nonprofits depend on donor goodwill. We built a different engine. The for-profit arm — Ubumuntu Health Labs — licenses inclusive software, accessibility tools, and consulting services to global partners. 40% of net profits are reinvested into the Initiative — scaling free SRHR hubs, paying peer educators fair wages, and distributing tactile health kits at no cost.

This isn't charity. It is structural accountability.
