Innovation
Rooted in Humanity
Merging high-end AI with the lived experience of refugees & persons with disabilities. Co-designing inclusive healthcare, SRHR access, and economic dignity.
The world looked at refugee camps through the lens of what is missing. We asked — how can they lead us?— Ubumuntu Radical Conviction
Our Story
The Ubumuntu Journey
The Spark
For decades, the world saw people waiting for help. We saw untapped expertise. The person who navigates the world in silence is the best designer of a communication tool.
The Shift
We stopped asking "How can we help them?" We started asking "How can they lead us?" Ubumuntu Health Labs was born from one radical conviction: the user is the expert.
The Ubumuntu Way
We don't just implement — we innovate. We don't just include — we employ. We don't just serve — we empower. Every product carries our seal: Designed by us, for all.
The Future
A world where disability is not a barrier to delivery — and where being a refugee is not a status of lack, but a source of specialized insight. The gap between provider and receiver disappears.

Who We Are
About Ubumuntu
Health Labs
Redefining humanitarian technology. Built by those who live the challenge.
Our Origin Story
Founded on the radical belief that those living at the margins — refugees, displaced individuals, and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) — are not passive beneficiaries but the most insightful designers of their own liberation.
Ubumuntu Health Labs disrupts the traditional aid model by integrating institutional AI, accessibility engineering, and deep co-design. Our office is in kigali and we operate country wide . Our team is majority composed of refugee experts and professionals with disabilities.
Vision
A world where healthcare and technology are universally accessible, co-owned by the most excluded communities, and where dignity is the default standard — not a privilege.
Mission
To merge cutting-edge AI & design with lived refugee and disabled expertise, building inclusive products and SRHR solutions that redistribute power, agency, and economic opportunity.
Core Leadership Principles
What We Build
Our Services
AI, accessibility engineering, and inclusive systems design.
WhatsApp AI Health Bots
Low-bandwidth multilingual chatbots for SRHR, mental health, and UHC information. Deployable in camp settings and rural areas with minimal data requirements.
Tactile & Audio Production
Luxury-grade Braille cards, audio reproductive health guides, and accessible signage tailored for blind and deaf-blind communities — products that feel like works of art.
Co-Design Consulting
We help NGOs, governments, and tech firms integrate refugee and disability-led design into their products — from early ideation to final testing with lived-experience panels.
SRHR Training Programs
Peer-to-peer certified courses for refugee youth and disabled persons on sexual rights, GBV prevention, consent, and digital safety.
Accessibility Audits
Gold-standard testing for websites, mobile apps, and health materials. We audit against WCAG 2.2, UNCRPD principles, and our own Ubumuntu Accessibility Standard.
Enterprise Licensing
License our inclusive AI stack for your humanitarian programs. Every enterprise license directly funds our free community SRHR hubs and tactile kit distributions.

Ubumuntu Labs
Initiative
The non-profit arm that takes inclusive tech from the lab to the last mile.
The Initiative directly deploys SRHR sessions, technology training, and accessibility programs inside refugee camps and rural disability centers across Rwanda. It is funded through the Circular Equity Model: for-profit licenses fund the Initiative, not donors — making it structurally independent and sustainable.
The Circular Equity Model
Most nonprofits depend on donor goodwill. We built a different engine. The for-profit arm — Ubumuntu Health Labs — licenses inclusive software, accessibility tools, and consulting services to global partners. 40% of net profits are reinvested into the Initiative — scaling free SRHR hubs, paying peer educators fair wages, and distributing tactile health kits at no cost.
This isn't charity. It is structural accountability.
